Promoting healthy futures through collaboration and education. GCC strives to reduce youth substance use by engaging and supporting the community through education and collaboration to promote and sustain healthy lifestyles.

I Can Breathe and I Will Speak: Seeking mentors to hang with the youth giving them a positive perspective in the community and attend monthly meetings. The hopes of this program are to reach children before they become at risk. Also to engage families to offer support to make a positive future for their children. Looking for Donations, such as board games, art supplies, snacks, drinks, silverware and napkins which can be dropped off at 34 West Fulton St, Gloversville. LaShawn is sending a flyer out with information to the coalition about the specifics of the Mentor program and donations needed. Gloversville Enlarged School District: Backpack Program- Meals provided to students, who are referred by a faculty or any staff member within the district to send meals home for the entire weekend & time off for students- Also there is assistance to families with nutrition, budgeting w/food stamps. Home Care packages- engage people with resources in community. Andy Slezak is looking for donations, especially boots at the moment due to weather for students in need. |

Youth Coalition Update (Paul): | Paul Meher is working on getting a first meeting set up with GMS 7th graders. Kayla Avera-Shaw will be the youth representative attending CADCA Forum January 31- February 3 with Bonnie and Paul. | |
Media Committee Update (Cassandra): |
Committee meeting in the next few weeks. Contract with iHeart Radio- Social Media/Web Based Connections. WAMC: underwriter for FM 90.3 the messaging on here is basically to let people know the coalition exits. Meeting in a couple of weeks. |

Parent Engagement Committee (Paul): |
Bonnie & Paul are trying to table at home varsity game to recruit youth for coalition, educate youth and parents about substance abuse harm. Will also try to get more parents to fill out under age survey. April 6- the film “Don’t Wait” will be showing from 6:30-8:00, this is a film about substance use prevention. This film is for parents of GHS/GMS students as well as Coalition members. A panel will be there for Q&A after the film. Food and Beverage will also be provided. Parent Engagement Committee will meet again in mid-February. |

PAX in Schools: |
Sabrina, Bonnie & Lashawn. The Coalition is hoping to bring this opportunity to the Gloversville Elementary Schools. PAX good behavior game teaches kids self-regulation. Hoping to attend Gloversville Recreation Commission Meeting to bring PAX tools for parents and those who work with youth. Helps to develop self-regulation and social emotional learning. The plan is to implement this in the spring. |

The Sustainability Plan Development: |
Due by February with progress report. Gwen & Brenda Hansson volunteered to meet with Bonnie to look over/revise the sustainability plan that was developed by Cindy last year. |

Marijuana Policy AD Hoc Work Group: |
Sally reported how the meeting with the City of Gloversville went on December 22, where health impacts of marijuana, zoning and legislation was discussed. As well as the Office of Cannabis Management the City was very interested in what was being discussed. The City sent a letter to Bonnie commending her/coalition on the great job. The coalition will continue to work with the City to educate and put pressure on them to set policies and protection in place for the youth as the City moves towards dispensaries. |

GPD & NEU Updates (Chief Clay): |
Chief Clay had no updates at this time. Currently dealing with staffing issues, so at this moment NEU is up in the air. |

Sector Representative Update: |
New Sector Representatives are Lashawn Hawkins (Civil/Volunteer Organization), Cailin Brown had said yes but still has not signed agreement. Looking for Media people to recruit. Sarah Butler is the parent representative, she also needs to sign agreement. Theresa Austin(Substance Abuse Organizations. Kayla Avera-Shaw is the youth representative. Looking for youth serving organization now that Tricia Terleckey is leaving Catholic Charities. Still need someone for healthcare professional representative. |

Bell ringing Results: |
Bonnie thanked everyone who stood with the Kettle (Bell ringing) at Walmart on December 21. The coalition had the biggest kettle in one day this year at $818.35 |

OD Mapping Update: |
FC for 2022: so far there have been 2 overdoses, with both in Gloversville and naloxone was used in both. |

Parent Survey Data: |
36 surveys have been filled out so far. Some preliminary results-7 said they felt drinking was a normal part of growing up. 21 did not know or did not think there was a social host law in Gloversville. 18 would support banning alcohol from public events where HS youth are attending. 26 would support beer keg registration and requirements. 28 said their family has clear rules about alcohol however only 20 of those spoke with their kids about it this past year. If anyone wants to hear more about the survey reach out to Bonnie. Bonnie feels more than 36 surveys should be filled out. |

In Washington DC 1/31-2/3. Bonnie, Paul and Kayla are attending from Glove City Coalition. HFM prevention council has other staff going to represent ASAPP’s promise. Good information should be coming back from there. |

Recreation Commission Meeting: |

Gwen Ossenkop (MCC and FMCC): Certificate program on cultivating marijuana. Gwen is going to be tour/visiting Vero Health at Tryon Park. Partnering with them to keep kids safe. Gwen invited Bonnie to join. Training opportunities through MCC on April 13 @ 9:30 training on Opioid use specifically Montgomery County/NYS to combat that. May 13th– CADCA Training on Wellness & 12 sectors on helping communities Brandy Richards (NPGRC): Annual Conference will be held virtually again this year on March 9&10. Significant calls coming into resource center since mobile betting access began in the state |
