Sally, Chad, Chief Clay: OD Mapping is a National Data Base for LEAs, EMS, 911, DAs to input suspected overdoses, fatalities, and Narcan used. It is not a truly accurate number because civilians do not have access to this system. Information gleaned from this report goes from National to a single zipcode and whatever date range. This information is being used in Fulton County to facilitate an Opioid Response Team to engage with people who have overdosed to offer assistance. The majority of people revived with Narcan do not go to the hospital. Due to HIPPA, hospitals do not use this system. Ginger Cato of The Recovery Center and others have been working this initiative for about 6 weeks. |

Coalition updates (Bonnie): |
– Action Plan Received preliminary acceptance of continuation grant…are permitted to “incur costs” going forward. – SPF Went over the 2022 Action Plan, which had input from some partners from the coalition previous to it being submitted. The DFC Goals were to 1) Increase Community Collaboration and 2) Reduce youth substance abuse: alcohol and marijuana/vaping. Bonnie identified the objectives, strategies, and activities that are planned to meet those goals. The full action plan was emailed to all coalition members in September. If you don’t have a copy of it, let Bonnie know..she can send it to you. I am planning to participate in the Halloween Trail being sponsored by I Can Breath and I will Speak, on October 30th at Rail Station Park. I plan to have candy bags with info on the coalition and positive messages for kids. I will have the wheel to spin to ask “trivia” questions related to alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana aimed at an elementary level as an educational aspect. If anyone would like to join me, we are supposed to dress up and make it fun! If you are interested in being a part, contact Lashawn! |

Risk Factor of the Month: Individual/Peer Domain: “Perceived Risk of Substance Use”. 69.8% of GHS/GMS youth are at risk of substance use because the do not perceive drug use to be risky, therefore they are far more likely to engage in drug use. In Crosstabs questions we found some details. When asked about the risk to someone smoking 1+ packs of cigarettes per day, 15.8% said no risk, 14.8% slight risk, 23.6% moderate risk, 45.7% great risk. E-Cigarette Use, 17.8% no risk, 23.1% slight risk, 30.2% moderate risk, 28.8% great risk. Alcohol 1-2 drinks/day 15% no risk, 22% slight risk, 32.6% moderate risk, 30.2% great risk. 5+ drinks 1-2X/weekend… no risk 15.9%, slight risk 16.2%, moderate risk 34.3%, great risk 33.5%. Regular Marijuana Use, 22.5% no risk, 21.7% slight risk, 25.9% moderate risk, 30% great risk.
Protective Factor of the Month: Family Domain “Family Attachment”. Young People who feel they are a valued part of their family are less likely to engage in substance use and other problem behaviors. 51.7% experience this protective factor. National average is 61.5%. We need to find ways to help families develop more family attachment.
