Promoting healthy futures through collaboration and education. GCC strives to reduce youth substance use by engaging and supporting the community through education and collaboration to promote and sustain healthy lifestyles.

Meeting begins at 10:03am. Introductions were made and Cindy directed us to place our name and organization in the chat box
Cindy provides the group with the story of the starfish in the ocean. Try to reach one individual at a time, rather than to be overwhelmed with trying to help all. |

Lashawn Hawkins: I Can Breathe and I Will Speak, Inc. TV Premier Spring project – Tire Gardens, two or three tries to bring beautification to Gloversville. Have many volunteers to help with the upkeep. Always looking for more volunteers, with the goal of putting one on every street. Recycling Bins – Want to place some throughout Gloversville. Volunteers will help keep the upkeep of the streets and the bins. Want to look to initiate projects in the spring, to get out once the sun shines and bring great things to our city. Cindy Website worksheet – Asked for individuals to continue to fill out the information worksheet if you would like to participate in the website. please submit to Cindy: cdavis@chchomecare.org
Survey – all schools in Fulton County will participate. GHS has participated. GMS, Cindy asked Mr. Batty. Mr. Batty informed Cindy they were completed. She will let Bach- Harrison know. Once things are compiled, Cindy will look to do a presentation.
Youth Coalition – Moving slowly. Up to 3 or 4 participants. Cindy and Paul attended Honor Society and Student Government meetings at the school via Zoom. Currently doing a coat drive and informed the group of the dates. (Jan 18- Feb 5)
Capacity Building Survey – last sent out on January 8th. This will help us determine strengths, weaknesses, and help us guide the Coalition efforts. Want to try to grab more people. Need them returned by Jan. 29th. Can email them or snail mail them
Upcoming events = Looking to perform a tri-ethnic survey which is a community readiness survey. Looking to get representation from certain areas and will ask questions about underage drinking, Key issues survey will address: Community knowledge of issue How to address the issue Current Climate or Beliefs Leadership Resources
March 17th – Plan an event of “17 alternatives to drinking” will work with Youth Coalition. Will have a “Party Patrol” with GPD. Chief Clay was asked about the weekend. He believed there was a weekend already set up. He will check and get back to Cindy. Chief Clay said the patrol will happen on the 17th.

Rich DeMallie – Asked that the Website information worksheet be directly sent to Superintendent Halloran and Mr. Mustafa

Lisa Schmidt = Possibly the Spotlight Speaker. Cindy will put her on the next agenda.

Howard Wilson = Asked Chief Clay about the issue of OD with Carfentanil Chief Clay confirmed there was an issue of this in Gloversville as well as many other specific drug issues.
Sally Baker = Discussed the triple P program through HFM Prevention. This is a parenting program, specifically for parents of children birth – 12 years old. Alicia has met with GHS Health Teacher. ASSAP’s Promise is starting a youth group at Johnstown High School. Anyone interested in Triple P, contact Alicia or Paul
Laura Sturgess – COVID vaccine Interest list. Interested parties please call 518-736-5650. Only those 60+ years of age.
Joyce Royal – Thanked those for the food drive. Next food pantry is Feb. 15th
Chief Clay – Any education prepared for the legalization of marijuana? Sally – Too Good for Violence Program will address that issue. Cindy would also like to address it through the Coalition.
Sally requested that Cindy speak with them off line as there are more programs
Brandy Richards = Looking to increase gambling prevention programs with the new access laws. Will be working with 4 Rivers Alliance in Hamilton County and will have an advertisement at the roundabout in Mayfield. Recently conducted trainings for security staff at both Saratoga and Rivers Casinos. They are doing a social media campaign around the super bowl. March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month.
